- Description
Sara Pérez is the wife of René Barbier, who produces the famous Clos Mogador, Espectacle, and Manyetes. Sara Pérez also manages the family estate, Clos Martinet. Additionally, she works closely with her brother Adria at Cims de Porrera. Their father, José Luis Pérez, one of the key figures in the Spanish wine world, is proud of his children. He himself remains active in various wine projects. Together with her husband, René Barbier (Clos Mogador), Sara Pérez owns and vinifies magnificent wines at Venus La Universal. As a tribute to every small food manufacturer from the 1920s who aspired to become big, Sara has named this mini-estate Compania Universal de Vinos. The phenomenal Venus de La Figuera has the sharpness of the limestone soils, the acidity of the vintage, and the altitude of the vineyard. The Venus La Figuera is the flagship wine and comes from the "Guixà" vineyard, situated on a soil type consisting of white clay and limestone at an altitude of 600 meters. The altitude and soil produce a very fine Grenache with pronounced acidity. The grapes ferment in open 500-liter vats. It macerates for a long time, 30 to 35 days, and the grapes are barely crushed in order to preserve the freshness and elegance of the Grenache from a high-altitude vineyard. After fermentation, the wine ages for at least 18 months in a 2,500-liter foudre, which is also the maximum production. The 2022 Venus de la Figuera is a characterful red wine from Montsant (Catalonia, Spain), produced by Venus La Universal, the wine project of Sara Pérez and René Barbier Jr. The wine originates from the village of La Figuera, where old Garnacha vines are planted at high altitude (around 600 meters) on calcareous soils. This results in a refined, elegant, and fresh style of Garnacha, with floral notes, juicy red fruit, delicate spices, and a strikingly mineral, almost ethereal structure. The wine typically ages in large wooden barrels or foudres, with minimal intervention. With its freshness, refined tannins, and aromatic complexity, the 2022 Venus de la Figuera is particularly well-suited for dishes where elegance, subtle spicing, and layering play a role
