- Description
Château La Gaffelière 2024 – classic elegance in top form The Château La Gaffelière 2024 confirms once again why this historic Grand Cru Classé house from Saint-Émilion is a fixture in the Bordeaux elite. In a year of challenging weather, the Malet Roquefort family team demonstrates their craftsmanship with a wine that effortlessly combines precision, freshness, and aromatic depth. Terroir and vineyard Located in the golden triangle of Saint-Émilion , Château La Gaffelière lies on a mix of limestone plateaus, clay-limestone slopes, and silica-rich flanks. The 22-hectare vineyard is planted with: 65% Merlot – juiciness, suppleness and fruit, 35% Cabernet Franc – floral finesse, tension and length. The estate is certified as Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and operates according to agro-ecological principles. Harvest and vinification of the 2024 Château La Gaffelière The harvest took place between 24 September and 8 October , with an average yield of 42 hl/ha . The grapes were harvested manually in small crates, cooled to 7°C, and subsequently rigorously sorted using an optical sorter. Vinification took place per plot in stainless steel tanks with: Cold pre-fermentation (8–10°C), Warm post-fermentation (30°C), Alcoholic fermentation with remontage and pigeage, Malo partly in the barrel (25%) and partly in the tank. The ripening takes place in: 60% new oak barrels (of which 15% in larger sizes of 400–500L), 2% in TAVA amphoras , for extra purity and texture. Assembly and style The final blend is: 60% Merlot , 40% Cabernet Franc . Alcohol: 13.5% | Acids: 3.3 g/L | pH: 3.55 The wine displays an intense bouquet of ripe cherries, violets, fresh herbs, and chalky minerality. On the palate, it is velvety, with a fine tannin structure, great freshness, and a long, precise finish. Reviews and score 96-97/100 – Yves Beck 95-97/100 – VINUM (Adrain Van Velsen) 94-96/100 – Antonio Galloni (Vinous) 93/100 – Jane Anson These scores underscore the great class and aging potential of this vintage. Food and wine pairing and availability A wonderful partner to roasted duck, tournedos with truffle jus, or a mushroom risotto. Also impressive with mature cheeses or simply on its own for a special moment
