- Description
About the Hacienda Monasterio winery in Ribera del Duero Hacienda Monasterio is a prestigious winery located between Pesquera and Valbuena del Duero, in the heart of Spain's Ribera del Duero region. The estate was revived in the early 1990s by renowned winemaker Peter Sisseck, also known for Pingus. Since then, Hacienda Monasterio has been known for its biodynamically farmed vineyards and the production of elegant, terroir-driven wines with an excellent reputation among wine connoisseurs worldwide. Climate and terroir in Ribera del Duero Hacienda Monasterio's vineyards are situated at an altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level, resulting in significant temperature variations between day and night. This promotes slow ripening of the grapes and contributes to the aromatic intensity and crisp acidity of the wines. The soils consist of limestone, marl, and clay, ideal for growing Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino. Grape composition and harvest of the 2020 Hacienda Monasterio The 2020 Hacienda Monasterio is a blend of predominantly Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), supplemented with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, depending on the vintage. The grapes are organically grown and harvested by hand, with strict selection in the vineyard and upon arrival at the cellar. The vineyards are between 20 and 60 years old, which gives the wine concentration and complexity. Fermentation and maturation in oak barrels Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for an average of 18 months in French oak barriques, a significant portion of which are new. This aging adds refinement, structure, and aromatic depth to the wine, without overpowering the fruit expression. Color, aroma and flavor profile of the 2020 Hacienda Monasterio The wine displays a deep cherry red color with a purple rim. The nose unfolds an intense bouquet of ripe blackberries, plums, spices, and subtle notes of graphite and cedar. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet refined, with velvety tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral finish. Its structure and balance make this wine suitable for both young drinking and extended aging. Would you like to order Hacienda Monasterio wines online?
