2021 Kopke Quinta de São Luiz Reserva Branco

Quinta de São Luiz is part of the renowned Kopke port estate. They saw great potential in the terroir and the centuries-old vineyards. São Luiz is located in the heart of the Douro region on the left bank of the river between Régua and Pinhão. Due to the construction of the Bagaúste Dam in the 1970s, the water level rose so much that Quinta de São Luiz lost part of its land. To resolve this, they acquired several quintas in the region to continue their dream. All have A-status and range in age from 1972 to 1987. São Luiz currently manages 125 hectares of vineyards. The combination of state-of-the-art technology in the winery and the access to its own vineyards guarantees superb wines. The São Luiz Branco is a blend of the typical grapes Viosinho, Arinto, and Folgazão. The Viosinho grapes are hand-harvested in late August, followed by the Arinto and Folgozão in early September. Maceration on the skins lasts approximately 24 hours, with fermentation in French oak barrels. The wine is aged for six months in the same barrels with regular battonage. The Quinta de São Luiz Reserva Branco boasts opulent aromas of tropical fruit and subtle oak notes. The palate is perfectly balanced, creamy and full-bodied with a pleasant acidity. An intriguing wine with a lovely, long finish. Ideal with oily fish and white meat. FACT: For years, the tradition at Quinta de São Luiz was to paint the stone wall white.
