2021 Château Figeac Premier Grand Cru Classé Magnum

Château Figeac has a long and rich history, dating back to the 2nd century, when it was originally a Roman villa. The estate has undergone several transformations over the centuries. In the 19th century, the estate came into the possession of the Manoncourt family, who played a major role in shaping its modern identity. Château Figeac's vineyards cover approximately 40 hectares (approximately 99 acres) and are planted primarily with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape varieties. The estate is known for its unique terroir, characterized by a combination of gravel, limestone and clay soils. This terroir contributes to the distinctive qualities of the wines produced. Château Figeac is known for its traditional winemaking practices, including hand-harvesting the grapes and the use of a combination of stainless steel and wooden fermentation vats. The estate produces a Grand Vin, its flagship wine, as well as a second wine called "Petit Figeac". The Grand Vin is the flagship wine and is typically a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The exact blend can vary depending on the vintage. One of the highlights of the Right Bank vintage, the 2021 Figeac is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Cabernet Franc and 29% Merlot, and the fruit of a month-long harvest, from 21 September to 19 October, with each parcel picked at peak ripeness. With aromas of blackberry, cassis, rose petals, violets, cigar wrapper and sweet earth notes, it is medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, its velvety attack giving way to a deep, layered core of beautifully vibrant fruit, finishing with a long, salty finish. The first vintage vinified in Figeac’s new winery, it has been a resounding success for winemaker Frédéric Faye and his team.
