EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNT VALID UNTIL 31/12/2026 - DELIVERY SPRING 2027 Behind every great wine lies a great terroir. This is also true for Château Palmer, situated on a long strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary. The land is well-drained, rich in deposits from the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, yet cleansed of organic matter. It is difficult soil for agriculture, but exceptional for viticulture. Naturally, the vines also require good care to perform optimally. And that is certainly entrusted to the staff at Château Palmer! Full of passion and love for the vines, they cultivate the demanding terroir. The men and women of this winery are more than just colleagues. Together, they embrace the shared core values of Château Palmer and are therefore extremely dynamic, curious, passionate, open-minded, and determined. In short, they live for and with the vineyards. The story behind Château Palmer and Alter Ego Château Palmer, located in the renowned Margaux appellation in the Médoc, is one of Bordeaux's most respected Grand Cru Classés. Since the 19th century, it has been known for its powerful yet silky wines. Under the leadership of Thomas Duroux, the estate has been working entirely biodynamically since 2008. Alter Ego de Palmer was introduced in 1998 as an 'alternative expression' of the terroir: not a second wine in the traditional sense, but a distinct cuvée with its own personality. Margaux terroir and biodynamic approach The vineyards of Château Palmer are situated on deep Garonne pebbles, characteristic of Margaux. The soils provide excellent drainage and heat retention. Thanks to the temperate maritime climate, the grapes benefit from long, balanced ripening cycles. Palmer practices biodynamic farming, in which natural preparations and calendar cycles form the basis for healthy soil and vibrant fruit. Grape composition and harvest data of 2024 The Alter Ego 2024 blend consists of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. The harvest took place between September 25 and October 10, 2024, earlier than usual due to persistent autumn rains. Despite a difficult spring with mildew pressure and coulure on the older Merlot vines, the summer drought and careful selection ultimately yielded fruit of high aromatic quality. The yield was 22 hectoliters per hectare. Vinification and aging of Alter Ego de Palmer 2024 The grapes were fermented plot by plot in concrete vats, with gentle extraction and full control over temperature and fermentation. The wine then ages for approximately 18 months in partly new French oak. The blending process was crucial: every component was carefully tasted and selected to achieve harmony. Alter Ego is vinified with the same precision as Château Palmer, but with the aim of creating a slightly more accessible style. Color, aroma and taste of Alter Ego de Palmer 2024 The wine has a deep ruby red color with purple hues. On the nose, aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, rose petals, dried herbs, and a hint of cedar. On the palate, the wine is juicy and balanced, with a silky tannin structure and plenty of freshness. The finish is long, mineral, and spicy. This 2024 is both expressive and subtle, and is pre-eminently a wine that offers great drinking pleasure in the short to medium term, but can also age for several years.
