The château, contemporary renovated by Patrice Pichet and winemaker Stéphande Derenoncourt, is considered by insiders to be among the finest in Pessac-Léognan. The Les Carmes Haut-Brion has a deep garnet-purple hue and unleashes a seductive array of savory aromas—black olives, charcuterie, and Sichuan pepper—over a core of bright red currant jelly, black cherry, and cassis, plus fragrant hints of rose petals and candied tangerine peel. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing and elegantly stylized, yet with a rock-solid backbone of firm, fine-grained tannins and a very good freshness, finishing long and fragrant.
