- Description
Between Catalonia and Navarra lies one of Spain's up-and-coming regions: Somontano. Its vineyards lie in the foothills of the Aragonese Pyrenees, and it only received its DO status in 1983, after a long struggle. The vineyards for this Gewürztraminer are located at 550-600 meters above sea level, sheltered by the Pyrenees. Humidity is low, partly due to the drying effect of gentle winds. The soil consists of a mixture of sand and loam, poor and permeable. Due to the altitude, the temperature difference between day and night is very large: 35°C during the day and 15°C at night. This gives the grapes additional complexity, aromatic power, and flavor. This is a wonderfully complex and rich wine, bursting with honey, rose, and spice. It's also a wine that tricks your palate, because despite its dry character, it leaves a slightly sweet sensation. Wonderful as a chill-out wine. And what about pairing it with chicken liver pâtés, blue cheese salads, or Asian cuisine? Besides its brilliant quality, the presentation is also striking. Spain's finest contemporary visual artists designed the labels. Top restaurateur Ferran Adrià
