The vineyard covers over six hectares and is situated on a gently sloping, east-facing slope. The soils consist of limestone and clay, which contributes to structure, tension, and aromatic layering. The 2018 vintage was characterized by a warm and dry growing season, with the vines, thanks to accumulated water reserves, withstanding the heat better than in previous warm years. Vineyards and grape varieties La Tâche is a monopoly vineyard, fully owned by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir. The 2018 harvest was relatively late at the estate, contributing to full phenolic ripeness and a complex aromatic profile. Yields remained moderate, resulting in concentration without heaviness. Harvest, vinification and maturation The harvest took place between early and mid-September, with La Tâche among the last parcels to be brought in. In the cellar, a distinct whole-bunch component was used, resulting in additional aromatic complexity and structure. Vinification focused on precision and balance, followed by aging in oak barrels that allow the wine to slowly develop. Color, smell and taste The wine has a bright ruby red color. The nose reveals notes of dark berries, black truffle, crushed rose petals, and autumnal forest floor, with a distinct influence of whole bunches. The aromatic profile is restrained at this stage and needs time to develop. On the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced, with finely textured tannins and pronounced tension. The fruit leans more towards the red end of the spectrum, supported by a salty, refined finish with a noticeable juiciness. The structure is silky yet deep, with a cerebral and layered impression.
