  • Description
Domaine de Cambes Winery Domaine de Cambes is owned by François Mitjavile, also the owner of Roc de Cambes. The estate is situated directly on the Gironde Estuary, where mist and deep clay soils ensure slow, balanced ripening. The style is intense yet refined, emphasizing tension, minerality, and ripe fruit. Domaine de Cambes is known for wines with immediate charm and longevity. More information about this winery can be found under the "Winery" tab. Region and year 2022 The 2022 vintage in Bordeaux is characterized by warm, dry conditions with concentrated fruit and a firm structure. Thanks to the influence of the Gironde estuary and the cool clay soils, Domaine de Cambes retains freshness and tension. The result is an energetic wine with distinct minerality and depth. Vineyards and grape varieties The vineyards are situated on deep, cool clay soils along the river. In 2022, the blend will consist of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The Merlot provides ripeness and roundness, while Cabernet Franc adds tension, aromatic lift, and structure. Vinification and maturation The vinification focuses on precision and balance, with a focus on preserving freshness and terroir expression. Maturation in oak barriques contributes to additional layering without overpowering the fruit character. Color, smell and taste Deep ruby red in color. The nose reveals notes of dark berries, mint, white flowers, and a distinct mineral note of chalk and wet stone. The palate is medium-bodied yet muscular, with a noticeable salty energy and tension. Fine red and dark fruit is supported by fresh acidity and a chalky texture. As the wine breathes, a subtle inner sweetness and refined perfume emerge, beautifully contrasting with the tight structure. The finish is mineral, clean, and lingering. Drinking window and development With ratings of up to 93 points, the 2022 Domaine de Cambes is energetic and refined. The recommended drinking window runs from 2026 to 2037. The wine needs time to fully develop and will continue to deepen in the coming years. Summary of professional reviews The 2022 is praised for its salty tension, mineral precision, and refined structure. Dark fruit, menthol, and chalky notes combine in an elegant, energetic Bordeaux with ageing potential.
