  • Description
Château Larrivet Haut-Brion from Graves-Pessac-Léognan is owned by the Gervoson family and today it is director Bruno Lemoine who takes the cru to the highest place in the appellation. This wine is made from a combination of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, supplemented with Merlot grapes. The vines have an average age of about 30 years and give the wine a pleasant amount of concentrate and strength. The harvest is done manually when the grapes have reached their perfect ripeness. The wine then matures partly (about one third) in new French oak barriques, partly (also one third) in barriques that have been used once before and partly (also one third) in barriques that have been used twice before. In the nose, this wine offers pronounced, soft notes of (over) ripe black fruit, a touch of leather and a smoky undertone with some light notes of licorice. Opaque purple-black colored, the 2019 Larrivet Haut-Brion bursts out of the glass with deliciously fragrant scents of black raspberries, Morello cherries and wild blueberries with suggestions of blackcurrant pastilles, candied violets, chocolate mint and forest floor. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with layers of red and black fruit, framed by firm, exquisitely ripe, velvety tannins and bold freshness, with a long and fragrant finish. The wine has received (92-94)+/100 points from Parker, who ends his assessment with: ".....Just stunning!"
