Mr. Killerman, as a young Mort Mitchell called him, lived alone in a modest shed in the hills behind the Kilikanoon Cellar Door. Completely self-sufficient, he grew his own fruits and vegetables and roamed the valley for his meals with rabbits being his favorite gastronomic treat. Mort came to know and respect this man of the bush, learning the secrets of the land and how to become one with the environment. Killerman's Run's range of approachable wines showcases the distinguished and diverse terroir of the Clare Valley and the Kilikanoon philosophy of uncompromising quality and consistency. Each individual parcel of Shiraz grapes was vinified separately and remained so until the final wine was blended. The aging takes place in French oak barriques (or as the Aussies call them: a hogsheads) for fifteen months bringing softness and elegance to the silky palate. The Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Shiraz has elegant aromas of red fruit with hints of cherry, anise and mixed spices. In the nose, notes of dark red fruit, plum and cherry with sweet spices, leather and licorice. In the mouth elegant flavors of red and dark fruit, blackberries, sweet plums and peppery aromas. The core is concentrated and focused, with a long and savory finish supported by fine oak tannin. A medium bodied shiraz with elegance, taste and finesse.
