Pauillac de Latour is the third wine of the prestigious Château Latour, located in the Bordeaux wine region, and specifically in the Pauillac appellation. This wine is a prime example of the high quality that this château consistently produces, even in its third wine. As the third wine of Château Latour, Pauillac de Latour is generally more accessible in price than the Grand Vin and the second wine, Les Forts de Latour. Nevertheless, it offers excellent value for money, especially considering the reputation and high quality standards of the château, and in particular for Vintage 2016. The grapes for Pauillac de Latour come from younger vines in the famous enclos of Château Latour and from parcels outside the core estates of the château. This ensures that the wine retains the characteristics of the Latour terroir, but with a slightly lighter structure.Pauillac de Latour is known for its rich, full-bodied flavours. The 2016 Pauillac de Château Latour is an engaging, opulent wine that shows just how great the year is. How can this be a third wine? Dark and full in the glass, the Pauillac de Latour has enormous class from the first moment. Black cherry, graphite, licorice, spice and leather all melt together in the glass. Floral overtones develop beautifully with age. Only the (relatively) lighter structure suggests the place of the Pauillac in the hierarchy of the château. Everything else is first-class. The Pauillac is a blend from parcels outside the core holdings in the famous enclos, plus younger vines in the enclos.
