Com Tu is a new project from the renowned Clos Mogador. René Barbier was one of the winemakers who discovered the potential of Priorat and has since become an indispensable part of the wine world. They have been in La Figuera since 2002-2003 and became involved with the Espectacle project. Their Laurona project always included some Garnacha from the village, and after discovering Espectacle, they focused more attention on the village's old vineyards. This new wine is based on three vineyards, all Garnacha, located at an altitude of approximately 550 to 600 meters near the Espectacle vineyard, with a total of only about 3 hectares, so supply is very limited. The character of this village wine is defined by flowers, an ethereal nose with orange peel aromas, and incredible structure, comparable to a juicy Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Com Tu is a new name to watch. The 2017 is the first vintage and immediately received high reviews, but then again, this is also from Clos Mogador. Parker writes: "It reminds me of a Garnacha from Châteauneuf." The Com Tu is a 100% Grenache/Garnacha that was aged for 18 months in a 4,000-liter used oak foudre, followed by a further year of bottle aging. The Garnacha grapes fermented in the same foudre with indigenous yeasts. It is still very young and raw, and the nose needs to develop, but it has subtle notes of raspberry leaf and wild cherries. The Garnacha grapes from La Figuera produce a wine with a unique ruby-red color, soft and juicy. The wine is still young, but after decanting, the opening reveals beautiful notes of ripe raspberries and cherries, currants, orange peel, licorice, and violets. This perfect interplay is also noticeable on the palate, where fruit is accompanied by herbs like thyme and rosemary, as well as dates and figs, which add a pleasant sweetness. The wine is powerful on the one hand, yet refined on the other, with silky tannins and ample freshness. It's already incredibly delicious when young, but it has immense potential. The palate is more vibrant and will further enhance with age. Along with Espetacle, Com Tu is one of the wines to watch in Montsant. By the way, Com tú? means: I am like you (Com tú), you are like me. It's a blend of Barbier's philosophy and Rene Barbier Sr.'s adopted son. It's a tribute to all people, regardless of their skin color, gender, face or body, or disability. The wine's name is meant to remind us that we are all the same deep down. As of 2021, the Com Tu has been given a new label with the image of the village of La Figuera incorporated into the label and the link has also been made with its little brother, the Sindicat. La Figuera, located in a higher area of the Priorat region. It is a unique hilltop village, different from the rest of the Priorat/Montsant region due to its different climatology (due to the altitude) and soil types, with a high proportion of clay, which creates the conditions for different cultivation methods. A small village where everything still needs to be built, they want to help grow together with Com Tu, while simultaneously strengthening and raising the profile of the region.
