The 2023 Le Petit Cheval represents 10% of the estate's production and is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In a way, this results in a Petit Cheval that is very much a Cheval, meaning it is very expressive on the bouquet but less generous on the palate. The 2023 Le Petit Cheval, which sees no new oak, offers blackcurrant and raspberry fruit on the nose, with hints of fireplace and light aromas of Earl Grey, all finely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with expressive Cabernet Franc providing subtle notes of green bell pepper in the background. Cohesive, silky, and of moderate length, this is an attractive Le Petit Cheval that will offer a decade of drinking pleasure.
