- Description
The Champagne Lété-Vautrain Millésime 2018 is a vintage champagne from the family business Lété-Vautrain, based in Charly-sur-Marne in the west of the Champagne appellation. This cuvée is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Meunier, and 25% Pinot Noir. The result is an exceptional, matured millésimé that is perfectly full-bodied and fresh. The 2016 Champagne Lété Vautrain Millésime has a dosage of (only): 4 g/l. The grapes are cold-pressed immediately, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, after which this magnificent vintage champagne ages for at least 8 years in the cellars of Lété Vautrain. The beautiful deep golden color of the 2018 Champagne Lété Vautrain Millésime is enhanced by fine and delicate bubbles. The bouquet enchants the senses with subtle buttery notes. The freshness of citrus, grapefruit, and lime, followed by redcurrant, forms a perfect balance with the ripe character of this vintage. The lightly toasted finish is harmonious and lingers pleasantly. This Millésimé champagne is versatile and can be served throughout the meal. Perfect as an aperitif, but also in combination with seafood, fish, turkey, roasted capon, and various cheeses. About Lété-Vautrain The story of Champagne Lété-Vautrain begins in 1968 in Château-Thierry, when Robert Lété and his wife Liliane Vautrain founded the family business. Over the years, they planted small plots of vines on their original 0.4-hectare plot. In this way, the vineyard steadily grew to its current 7.5 hectares. Their daughter Michèle and son Frédéric took over the business and further developed the vineyard. The winery is located in the Vallée de la Marne, an area with characteristic sandy and clay soils. They also own two historic vineyards in the village of Leuvrigny, near Epernay. The champagnes come from their own vineyards, and in line with tradition in the Marne Valley, Pinot Meunier is always the most dominant grape. Lété-Vautrain is incomparable to many (mass) commercial champagne houses that, in many cases, do not even own the vineyards but buy up the grapes and depend on contract farmers for their grapes. This aspect influences the exclusivity and character of the champagne. Lété-Vautrain is a "Récoltant-Manipulant" (RM), which means that the house grows, harvests, and vinifies the grapes into champagne itself. This is different from "Négociant-Manipulant" (NM) houses, which buy grapes or base wine from other winegrowers to produce their champagnes. Advantages of owning your own vineyards include - Complete control over quality – From the cultivation of the grapes to the final production, the house itself determines the quality and style of the champagne. - Unique terroir – By managing its own vineyards, a champagne house can harness the unique characteristics of the terroir and create a distinctive taste. - Authenticity and identity – Champagne from a house with its own vineyards has an authentic product that bears a clear signature of the estate
