2024 Château Haut Brion Blanc

the history of Château Haut-Brion Château Haut-Brion is one of the most famous and historic estates in Bordeaux. The estate in Pessac-Léognan has a history dating back to the 16th century and was one of the first châteaux to achieve international fame. Since 1855, Haut-Brion has been classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. The house is known worldwide for its red wine, but the white Haut-Brion is one of the rarest wines of Bordeaux and is produced only in very limited quantities. It is precisely this scarcity that makes the wine particularly coveted by enthusiasts and collectors. the terroir of pessac-léognan The Haut-Brion vineyards are located in Pessac-Léognan, on a unique soil of gravel, clay, and sand. This combination ensures excellent drainage and heat retention, ideal for both Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The climate is tempered by the proximity of the River Garonne, which contributes to even ripening. This terroir gives the wine its characteristic balance of power, elegance, and mineral tension. the grapes and the 2024 harvest The 2024 Haut-Brion Blanc is composed of 56.1% Sémillon and 43.9% Sauvignon Blanc. The year began with a mild, wet winter, resulting in early bud formation. Constant rain in the spring slowed growth and brought additional disease pressure, requiring meticulous work in the vineyard. Flowering was favorable for the white grapes, and the mild weather in July gave the vines renewed energy. The harvest took place from September 2 to 10 under excellent conditions, with cool nights and warm days that benefited the aromatic freshness and purity of the grapes. The first juices showed a refined balance, lively acidity, and a delicate expression of Sauvignon Blanc. vinification and style The grapes were carefully harvested by hand and taken directly to the cellar for precise vinification. A portion of the wine was aged in new French oak (approximately 40%), which adds structure and depth without overpowering the fruit. The combination of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc results in a wine with power, aromatic intensity, and longevity. The 2024 Blanc distinguishes itself by its full yet fresh style, with a long-lasting, almost ethereal finish. color, smell and taste The 2024 Haut-Brion Blanc presents a light yellow color with green nuances. The bouquet is complex and intense, with aromas of white peach, citrus zest, acacia, and floral notes, combined with smoke, iodine, and a subtle spiciness. Neal Martin notes lime, gooseberry, and mirabelle plum, with a fine minerality. Antonio Galloni praises the silky texture, with accents of marzipan, chamomile, spices, and candied lemon. The palate is medium to full, juicy and layered, with a lively freshness and a briny, endless finish. According to the château itself, this is “one of the most beautiful vintages of Haut-Brion Blanc.” This unique wine is included in OWC/1. ratings and aging potential The 2024 is considered one of the wines of the year in Bordeaux. Antonio Galloni (95-97) describes the wine as seamless and textured, with a long, enchanting finish.
