- Description
The 2022 Domaine Prieuré Roch Vosne-Romanée Hautes Maizières is one of the most refined and characterful wines from this iconic Burgundy estate. Hailing from an exceptionally situated climat in Vosne-Romanée, directly bordering some of the world's most famous Grand Cru vineyards, this Pinot Noir demonstrates why Domaine Prieuré Roch belongs among the absolute cult producers of the Côte de Nuits. The wine combines unprecedented fruit purity with floral elegance, mineral depth, and impressive aging potential. Domaine Prieuré Roch Domaine Prieuré Roch was founded by Henry-Frédéric Roch, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti for many years. From the very beginning, one philosophy has been central: the vineyard determines the wine. The estate operates entirely organically and biodynamically, with very low yields, manual harvesting, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The grapes ferment spontaneously with natural yeasts, after which the wines are bottled without fining or filtering. As a result, they retain their full aromatic richness and offer an extremely pure expression of their origin. For more information about Domaine Prieuré Roch, please refer to the Winery tab. Les Hautes Maizières Les Hautes Maizières is one of the finest lieux-dits of Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard lies directly below Les Suchots and borders the prestigious Grand Cru Romanée-Saint-Vivant. This exceptional location, combined with calcareous clay and limestone soils, produces Pinot Noir with a remarkable combination of finesse, tension, and aromatic complexity. The terroir produces wines that seduce with elegance rather than power. It is precisely the refined structure, the floral expression, and the pronounced minerality that make Hautes Maizières one of the most characterful terroirs within Vosne-Romanée. The 2022 volume 2022 is considered an excellent vintage in Burgundy. The warm summer ensured perfectly ripe grapes, while cool nights preserved freshness and aromatic precision. The result is wines with great concentration, silky tannins, and a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and lively tension. For Domaine Prieuré Roch, this meant a harvest in which natural vinification came into its own and the terroir manifested itself particularly clearly. Vinification As is customary at Domaine Prieuré Roch, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand and rigorously selected. Fermentation takes place using natural yeasts, and a significant portion of the grapes is processed as whole bunches. This results in extra aromatic complexity, refined spiciness, and a beautiful structure. Aging proceeds gently in French oak, without the wood dominating the wine. Clarification and filtration are omitted so that the wine retains its full personality. Scent, taste and character The 2022 Hautes Maizières opens with an extremely refined bouquet of wild strawberries, raspberries, cherries, and pomegranate, followed by violets, rose petals, and subtle Asian spices. As the wine opens up, nuances of forest floor, black tea, orange peel, and a characteristic chalky minerality emerge. On the palate, the wine displays impressive precision. The texture is velvety and almost weightless, while lively acidity and extremely fine tannins ensure a perfect balance. The red fruit remains consistently fresh and transparent, supported by a mineral tension that gives the wine great length and energy. The finish is exceptionally long and refined, with floral notes, red fruit, fine spices, and minerality alternating for an extended period. Every sip reveals new nuances, allowing the wine to continue evolving in the glass. A wine that places the terroir at the center Hautes Maizières perfectly demonstrates why Domaine Prieuré Roch enjoys such a special reputation. The wine is not a demonstration of extraction or wood use, but of terroir, elegance, and purity. The estate's natural approach ensures that every vintage is a unique reflection of the vineyard and the growing seas
