The 2025 growing season began with a wet period, followed by an exceptionally dry and warm phase. These conditions resulted in rapid grape development, but thanks to experience and adjustments in the vineyard, the balance was maintained. The grapes ripened under relatively cool conditions in the shade of the canopy, which contributed to freshness and aromatic precision. Grapes and vineyard management The blend consists of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The harvest began early with Merlot in early September and continued until the end of September for the later varieties. Despite the challenging conditions, the quality of the fruit remained high, with healthy grapes and thick skins that ensured concentration and structure. The biodynamic approach plays an important role in maintaining balance in the vineyard. Vinification and aging In the cellar, work was carried out with maximum precision and minimal intervention. Extraction was deliberately kept limited to preserve finesse. The wine ferments with natural yeasts and is aged in a combination of new oak barrels, used barriques, and concrete amphoras. This approach ensures structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit, and contributes to the wine's soft texture and refinement. Color, smell and taste The wine has a deep, intense color. On the nose, aromas of red and purple fruit, floral notes such as lavender and rose petals, and a subtle spiciness come to the fore. On the palate, the wine is remarkably silky and precise, with polished tannins that provide a soft and elegant structure. The taste is layered and refined, with a beautiful balance between freshness and ripeness. The finish is long, harmonious, and slightly saline, leaving a lasting impression of finesse. Style and character The 2025 Pontet-Canet distinguishes itself through its refinement and balance. Where earlier vintages sometimes placed more emphasis on power, the focus here is clearly on elegance and precision. The wine is medium-bodied yet intense, with a soft and almost velvety texture.
