Aromas of cassis, graphite, and violets set the tone for the 2023 vintage of Proprietary Red. This wine is a Napa Valley blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot produced at Continuum Estate. Behind the fruity aromas, a hint of savory herbs lingers. Although concentrated, it is by no means heavy; it is underpinned by solid sophistication, and the flavor carries through to a long, clean finish. The 2023 vintage saw a high yield, and unusually cool weather persisted right up until harvest. This slow accumulation process results in a wine characterized by freshness rather than heaviness. Continuum's vineyards are located at elevations ranging from 1,300 to 1,600 feet, with 38 acres of the 173-acre property planted with grapevines. Tim and Marcia Mondavi founded Continuum after selling Robert Mondavi Winery. The wine is aged for 22 months, with 56% aged in new French oak barrels, 43% in neutral French oak barrels, and 1% in concrete amphorae. It is recommended to decant this young wine when opening it. It is best enjoyed between 2027 and 2044
