  • Description
Peñas Aladas Gran Reserva 2015 is made from grapes harvested from some of the oldest vines in the village of La Aguilera. It is a Ribera del Duero red wine produced by Dominio del Águila, with Tempranillo comprising approximately 85% of the blend, with Cariñena, Bruñal, Bobal, Albillo, Garnacha, and several other varieties making up the remainder. These vineyards are located at high elevations of 870-890 meters above sea level. The surface consists of a layer of sand that gradually transitions into a layer of clay at a depth of about 1 meter, with marl and limestone beneath.2015 was a powerful year here, and there was some frost; as a result, the remaining grapes developed a more concentrated flavor. The final production totaled 2,223 bottles and 41 magnums. Malolactic fermentation lasted six months, part of a total of 54 months of aging in French oak barrels. The nose reveals dark berry and raspberry aromas, accentuated by notes of wild herbs and subtle spices. On the palate, it offers a flavorful and elegant taste, with soft, rounded tannins and a long finish. Jorge Monzón and Isabel Rodero own this vineyard; Monzón crafts the wine, and the grapes are grown using organic methods. It is ready to drink now, though it benefits from about an hour of decanting. It is best enjoyed through 2040
