History of International Women’s Day

Thus on 19 th March for the first time International Women’s Day was observed in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Denmark where even 1 million men participated for rallies for rights of women. Gradually Russian women celebrated women’s day as a peace movement and later to express solidarity against war European women held protest and rallies. This was decided to be done on last Sunday of February which fell on 8 th March according to Gregorian calendar. Thus on March 8, 1975, a resolution was passed in United Nations to observe this day as International Women’s Day.
