Tulips are the flowers that come in a rainbow of colors and myriad of shape. They are one of the gorgeous flowers to have around. To plant them, fall is the right season. The reason for this is because the ground gets cold and hard. Watch them grow and bloom in the season of spring when weather turns warm. Some facts about Tulip is that wild Tulip is said to be native of arid region of central Asia. The original species have variety of color range. Most of the are red and yellow, which are popular among others.

1. Prepare Soil to Plants the bulbs

  • The right time to plant tulips is when soil gets cold during fall. Plant it before first deep frost. This hardens the ground and makes it difficult to dig holes for bulbs.

  • The larger the flowering bulb, the more likely it is to produce not just one but multiple flowers. Bulbs are graded by size, and of course, the largest bulbs are the most pricey. So if you’re planting bunch of bulbs, buying smaller bulbs is more cost effective.
  • Each tulip bulb produces 3-4 stem. This depends on the type of tulip you choose. To choose the right bulb, pick the one that are firm to the touch and has a light brown papery skin. It looks like an onionskin.
  • Avoid a bulb that soft or shrivelled which indicates of dead bulb inside. Stay away from bulbs with dents, bruises, and cuts.
  • Check the hardiness zone rating for your bulbs and select ones that are adapted to growing where you live. Also, consider bulbs with specific traits, such as fragrant bulbs, shade-loving bulbs.

3. Decide the Place

Tulips are majorly planed along fences, buildings and walkway. They add a bust of colors to the set up. Choose the right place where you wish to plant for better growing. Remember,
  • Sunny or light shaded area and not excessively wet soil is the right place for tulips to grow.
  • There are colours available.Thus, creating a pattern while planting them is another best idea. A whole bed of multicolored tulips can also make a perfect way to place it.

4. Dig holes for the bulbs

  • Make a hole in the soil in the dimensions of 4 to 6 inches apart. Dig the hole up to 8 inched under from the base. if you have 1 inch bulb, dig 9 inches hole. The hole should be larger if the size of bulb is large.
  • Dig and clear away all the roots and stones. This can lead to impede the growth of the plant.
  • Sprinkle some kitty litter, gravel, holly leaves or thorny bush branched into the hole to deter mice’s and other to avoid them occupying the hole.

5. Plant the tulip bulbs

Place the bulb in the hole pointy side. Take care of the direction as they grow in the upward direction. Do not tilt tulip bulb. Tulip bulb can come back after one grow. There is no special climate needed for this. But the soil is not conductive for more than a year. If you wish tulips to come back again after a year, plant food will help them do. 6. Water the bulbs lightly

After the right placing bulb, add water into it. Do not soak the soil in water. They just need little to start the process of growing. Water the bulb only when the soil is too dry. 7. After They Bloom

After bloom, when the foliage turns yellow, indicated the deadness of the plant. Instead of cutting off the stems on the bulbs just remove any seed heads on tulips that were pollinated during the spring.
